About RMJM
RMJM Dubai is one of the region’s most respected architecture firms, and has been for decades. When the UAE was first established in the 1970s, RMJM was the first international consultant appointed by the Ruler of Dubai. Since then, the firm has shaped skylines across the Middle East, designing some of its most iconic buildings and interior spaces.
Initial Challenges
Despite their impressive portfolio, RMJM’s IT infrastructure was showing its age.
Their legacy network struggled to keep up with the firm’s data-heavy workflows. Large project files stored on the NAS took a long time to upload and download, frustrating architects, employees and leading to a lot of complaints to their In-house IT specialist. With only 20TB of storage, space was running out fast.
On top of that, their biometric office entry system had become unreliable, fingerprints often failed to register, especially when staff returned from the washroom with damp hands. This created both security and access issues, especially with team members working on weekends or outside office hours.
Project Goals
- Upgrade RMJM’s network to boost speed, performance, and reliability.
- Expand secure storage capacity to support their large design files.
Implement a modern access control system for better security.
- Enable secure remote connectivity for staff working from home.
- Provide ongoing third-line IT support for RMJM’s internal IT team.
Solution
Following a full network audit, Kew Solutions designed a complete upgrade plan to modernise RMJM’s IT environment.
Network & Storage Upgrade
Installed a new Synology NAS system, increasing storage capacity from 20TB to 35TB, later expanded to 50TB after proactive monitoring flagged that capacity was nearing its limit and allowing Kew to work with RMJM to upgrade storage space before it caused any disruption.
Wi-Fi & Access Points
Added UniFi Access Points throughout the office to boost coverage and speed. Following an internet package upgrade with their Internet Service Provider (ISP), the new UniFi infrastructure was fully equipped to handle the increased bandwidth, elevating network performance from 150 Mbps to 1 Gbps. The result was a dramatic improvement in both Wi-Fi coverage and overall team productivity. Nasrullah from RMJM described the upgrades as “A difference between night and day,”.
Security & Biometrics
Replaced the outdated fingerprint entry system with Hikvision facial recognition, eliminating previous reliability issues and ensuring secure access for staff after hours. As a SIRA-certified provider, Kew also installed a new CCTV system. RMJM were able to add registering new employees to their onboarding form, improving internal working processes.
Firewall & VPN
A SonicWall firewall was installed for enterprise-grade security and established a VPN connection, allowing staff to work securely from home, essential for business continuity should employees be unable to access the office.
UPS Upgrade
RMJM’s server UPS System had begun to fail, shutting down unexpectedly and causing sudden power loss across critical hardware. Once alerted, Kew Solutions quickly intervened, replacing the faulty UPS and implementing a redundant power supply setup, using two UPS units connected in parallel. This fail-safe configuration ensured continuous uptime and eliminated the risk of power-related outages, providing RMJM with a far more stable and reliable server environment.
Ongoing Collaboration
RMJM’s internal IT specialist, Nasrullah, continues to manage day-to-day support, while Kew Solutions provides third-line expertise and proactive monitoring to handle complex network and server issues.
